Lachlan Smith was one of three Berean High School students to attend an unprecedented California Boy’s State experience this summer. Traditionally, Boy’s State is hosted at Sacramento State University and the agenda includes a tour of the capital. But this year, Smith participated in the mock government event from underneath his loft bed.
On Saturday, June 26 a group of ten teenagers headed out to Rockway Beach in Pacifica. Instead of surf boards, beach chairs, and coolers, they carried trash bags in their hands. They weren’t there to party or surf; they were there to pick up trash.
Tedesco has experience in theater and Model U.N., so she’s accustomed to performing in front of people. But writing a speech to the class of 2021 felt more vulnerable. “I’m used to performing what other people write,” she says. “Talking about my own feelings is really different, and this is one of the last things that they will ever hear from our Berean experience.”
