Ami Socrates, of the AI and Machine Learning club, sat down to discuss the future of the club as they enter a new chapter later this month.
She gave a brief overview of the changes, saying “During last year’s run of the club, we mainly focused on data models, but after getting input from past members we decided to incorporate more coding-based activities which I think will be really interesting.” For those who may not have had the opportunity to join last year or are not familiar with the nature of the club, she describes it as “essentially an application based club that has a goal of teaching learners how to code and study data models.” This season’s members will “be learning how to code in the Python language and will learn from professionals in the field, outside of school, that collaborate with us.” This will further the club’s goal to “gain as much experience learning Python and [learn] how to interact with data models.”
Contrasting with some other clubs on campus, the AI and Machine Learning Club will “be based around the curriculum that our collaborators provide over a course of six weeks.” These collaborators include businesses outside of school, one of which “will be offering more coding experience outside of the club to members who are interested.” She said that members may expect occasional special meetings, however the club will be focused around this structured 6 week curriculum. To date the exact meeting day has not been decided, however those interested can expect meetings to be held after school in Mr. Sugimoto’s room, beginning sometime in February. When asked about what she looks forward to most about this new chapter of the club, Ami said she is excited about learning Python and “sharing more about something [she is] passionate about, and learning more about computer science through the club this year.”
To conclude, she said “if people are really interested in coding then this club would definitely be fun to join!”
